Biography OSBORN Adam
OSBORN Adam (Osborne Adam) (p. 1940), an American entrepreneur in the field of computers, a native of Thailand. The creator of the company Osborne, producer of the first portable personal computers.
He graduated from Birmingham and the University of Delaware. In 1968 he obtained a doctorate in chemical engineering. He started working with computers in the Shell Development Corporation in California in the late 1960's and then founded his own company Osborne & Associates (1970), Berkeley (California). He worked as a publisher, consultant-programmer from 1970 to 1979. I tried myself and in the field of literature. In 1979, Osborne sold his publishing company McGraw-Hil.
In 1980 he founded a computer firm Osborne Computer Corporation, investing in a 250 thousand dollars of his own money. The company began producing the first portable personal computer, which had the size suitcase. It was not a laptop, because he weighed 11 kg, but was able to fit under the seat aircraft. Osborne I became a bestseller in the price in 1795 dollars, includes the cost of all equipment, cases, word processing and spreadsheets. The demand for him was so great that after two and a half years the company went bankrupt, unable to cope with their obligations. Then Osborne founded Paperback Software, which also collapsed shortly after the loss of copyright in favor of Lotus Development.
In 1990, Osborne has created two new companies - a company producing printed circuit boards in India to sell them in the U.S. and companies involved in artificial intelligence.
