Biography Irving Washington
Irving, Washington (Irving, Washington) (1783-1859), American writer. Born April 3, 1783 in New York. The first publication of Irving's theatrical essays and satirical sketches of the life of New York society, appeared in the 'Morning Chronicle', a publisher which was his brother, Irving P.. In 1804, Irving went abroad. Upon return without much interest in continued legal education and became a barrister. In 1809 released his first book "History of New York, told Didrihom Knickerbocker" (Diedrich Knickerbocker's History of New York) - satirical review of morals, politics, history and the authorities of New York, earned the flattering opinion of W. Scott. During the Anglo-American War, 1812-1814, wrote biographies of naval commanders, had been adjutant of the governor of New York in the rank of colonel. In 1815, again went to Europe, where he lived for 17 years.

Upon arrival at Irving in England his family's financial situation worsened, he had to earn a living literary work. In 1819-1820 he published a collection of essays and short stories titled "The Book of sketches" (The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent), which was opened by Rip Van Winkle. Irving's book marked the transition from education to the aesthetics of Romanticism. In 1822 was followed by "Breysbridzh Hall" (Bracebridge Hall), in 1824 - "Stories traveler" (Tales of a Traveller), first published in London. In the 1826-1829 Irving served in the U.S. Embassy in Spain. In the Alhambra (Granada province), he wrote a three-volume biography of Columbus H. (1828), . In the 1829-1832 Irving served as attache at the American diplomatic mission in London, then returned to the U.S.. A tireless traveler, he walked down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, crossed the territory of the Osage, in touch with the life of the American Frontier. His experience, he later expressed in his books "Journey to the prairie" (A Tour on the Prairies, 1835), "Astoria" (Astoria, 1836) and "The Adventures of Captain Bonvilya" (The Adventures of Captain Bonneville, 1837)

. At his estate in Sunnyside on the Hudson, he continued to write books, . gave advice on political issues, . tolerate careful judgments about the most original young writers, . such, . as N.
