Moldovan parliamentary speaker proposes to introduce dress code at parliament
Chair of the Moldovan parliament Marian Lupu calls upon members of the parliament to wear "if not suits, then at least shirts and ties" at the parliamentary sessions.
As a REGNUM correspondent was told at the parliament, the speaker made the statement at the parliamentary session yesterday. "Although the parliamentary regulations do not contain any restrictions, I ask our male colleagues, as we are present at a parliamentary session, to agree upon attending [sessions] at least in shirts and ties," Lupu said adding it would be a "symbol of respect." According to him, he had to address the MPs with such a statement as some Moldovan MPs started attending sessions being dressed in "jeans and cardigans."
At the same time, as one of the MPs to whom the statement was addressed said, the casual style makes MPs feel "closer to common people."
