Scientists invented paper stronger than steel
Scientists from Perm state Institute came up with cellulose, which for its own stability is superior to steel. Such material may be used for producing super-flexible screens and bullet-proof vests.
Scientists of the Perm state national research University Perm state University) invented a new method of obtaining nanocellulose. From not possible to produce a durable and also lightweight materials - vests, durable composite machine parts, medical bandages and otherwise.
Now in Russia the production of nanocellulose missing. But, thanks to the work of the Perm Institute with the Institute of ecology and genetics of microorganisms UB RAS, a scientist turned to find a specialized strain of fungi, which allows you to do heavy-duty paper material. As the employees of the Institute, a new method of obtaining nanocellulose reduce the cost of its creation in 3.5 times.
According to the worker of the laboratory of cellular and microbial biotechnology Institute Elvira Potomka as raw material the scientists plan to use multiple waste paper and cellulose materials. "Only on the ground of the Perm region is over 8 million tons of unutilized waste," she added.
As explained by the staff of the University, nano pulp has a unique property of pseudoplasticity - binding it in simple terms, behaves like a fluid under mechanical impact and heavy-duty solid. Head of the sector of Biocatalysis and biosynthesis Laboratory of microbial and cellular biotechnology, Alexander Maximov stressed that the strength of this material is superior to stainless steel.
On the basis of the obtained product, you can create all sorts of component parts of products, systems, machines, and super-flexible screens, bullet-proof vests and other armor products. In medicine and pharmacology nano pulp is used as sorbents and dressings. In addition, the ability effectively to fill gaps, it can be used as the adhesive material for the destruction of technical defects.
