Russian billionaire becomes co-owner of Arsenal FC
Red and White Holding Limited investment company co-owned by Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov has bought 14.6% shares of Arsenal Football Club, one of leading clubs in the British Premier League.
The deal cost over $150mn. The package of shares was purchased from former Arsenal Vice President David Dein.
According to BBC, the new owners of the Arsenal shares say the club needs additional financing to remain the elite of the world football. Red and White Holding Limited intends to increase its share in the club in the future, however, purchase of the club is out of saying.
Alisher Usmanov heads Gazprominvestholding, a Gazprom affiliate. According to Forbes ratings, Usmanov is 278th in the list of world richest people. His fortune was estimated $3.1bn.
