Russia is ready for heating season
The fuel reserves stockpiled during preparations for the 2007-2008 heating season exceed planned levels by more than 50 percent on average, acting Russian Regions Minister Vladimir Yakovlev said at a government meeting today.
The official noted that, on the whole, winter preparations were being carried out at a faster rate this year than in 2006, with some 85.4 percent of housing facilities already prepared for the heating period as of September 1, 2007. The heating season has already started in six northern territories, with 30 more to join them on September 15.
The remaining regions` heating system will begin as scheduled. Yakovlev added that fuel requirements were estimated based on the expectation that September, October, and November 2007 would be warmer than normal, with December 2007 and January 2008 being colder than normal, and February warmer again.
