50 Cent scraps European performances
US rapper 50 Cent, who appears to be losing a head-to-head chart battle with Kanye West, has scrapped a promotional European tour without explanation, the MTV music network said Monday.
The east coast rapper had scrubbed appearances at the MOBO black music awards and the Vodafone Live Music Awards, both on Wednesday in London, and a show scheduled for MTV in Germany on Friday, the network said.
"50 Cent is very sad to confirm that due to a last minute, unforeseen and unanticipated change in his schedule, he will have to postpone his European Promotion Trip from Sept. 18-25," it quoted his label as saying.
The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, released his third album "Curtis" last week on the same day as West brought out his album "Graduation."
Fiddy, as he is known to fans, threatened in an interview with the SOHH.com hip hop website to give up his solo career if West beats him in the charts.
"If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I`ll no longer write music," the website quoted him as saying. "I`ll write music and work with my other artists, but I won`t put out any more solo albums."
The result of the chart battle will become clear later this week. Kanye has already won the fight in the British charts.
