Over 1,200 Australian cows to live at Russian Far East island
A total of 1,237 cows have been shipped from Australia to Russia`s Far East island of Sakhalin, a livestock official at the regional agricultural department said on Tuesday.
Later today, the cows will be delivered to agricultural companies in south Sakhalin, Konstantin Agapov said.
Specialists from the region traveled to Australia to select the cattle. The cows have been provided under a five-year leasing agreement, and 7.5 million rubles (around $300,000) was allocated from the local budget for the first installment plus insurance, the official said.
