Two Russians continue to win in 2007 St. Petersburg Open
Russia`s Mikhail Yuzhny and Dmitry Tursunov will play in the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open tennis tournament Friday.
Third seed Yuzhny, the tournament`s 2004 champion, will face in his quarterfinal match Germany`s Philipp Kohlschreiber (7). The Russian, who is currently ranked 17th place in the ATP rankings, advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating defending champion Mario Ancic of Croatia 6-4, 6-2 on Thursday.
Tursunov (5) will play second-seeded Andy Murray from Britain, who easily advanced to the quarterfinals after beating the Czech Republic`s Lukas Dlouhy 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets.
Russia`s top-seed and the winner of the 2007 Kremlin Cup Nikolai Davydenko, the world`s current No. 4, failed Thursday to go through to the second round losing in 3 sets to Croatian Marin Cilic 1-6, 7-5, 2-6.
The 19-year-old Cilic, who is currently placed 102 in the world rankings, will play against Ernest Gulbis from Latvia Friday.
The last pair to meet in Friday`s quarterfinals is Potito Starace from Italy and Fernando Verdaso (6) from Spain.
The prestigious tennis tournament, which runs through October 28, was first held in Russia`s second-largest city in 1995. The prize money on offer has increased from $300,000 to $1 million this year.
