Russian-produced Ford Mondeo cars go on sale
The first Ford Mondeo cars to be produced at a Ford car plant near Russia`s second largest city of St. Petersburg have gone on sale in Russia, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
The company officially launched the sale of Russian-produced Ford Mondeo cars on April 1.
The Russian plant, which began manufacturing the Mondeo in early March, will initially produce six different models of the saloon version at prices ranging between 600,000 rubles ($17,670) and 938,000 rubles ($27,620).
The Ford plant in Vsevolozhsk, near St. Petersburg, was opened in the summer of 2002 and employs some 2,200 workers.
On January 21, the plant restarted its assembly lines, which were shut down on December 24 after the global economic crisis threatened sales. In line with Russia`s Labor Code, the company paid its workers two-thirds of their salaries during the extended holidays.
