Justice Ministry: Russia For the moment has not ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC


Russia At this moment has not ratified the Rome Statute of the international criminal court (ICC), which has recently announced that it plans to start proceedings in relation to the 2008 conflict in South Ossetia, and requested the Russian Federation materials of investigation of these events, informed the Ministry of justice of the Russian Federation.

"as of 12. 10. 2015 Rome Statute of the international criminal court of the Russian Federation not ratified, " - said in the Ministry.

The Rome Statute, which entered into force 2002, is the basis of the ICC's work. The Russian Federation international Treaty signed in 2000, but until now not ratified. So, the Russian Federation, as well as the USA, China, Ukraine and several other countries, the jurisdiction of the international justice does not apply. The Georgian Parliament ratified the Rome Statute in 2003, for this reason, the iniquity committed by its citizens or on its territory are under the jurisdiction of the ICC.

The head of the Investigative Department Alexander Bastrykin have said before, that the ICC has asked the Russian Federation the investigation of war crimes in South Ossetia in 2008. According to head SK, before any International court is not concerned with the investigation, although the Russian Federation, which qualifies the actions of the Georgian military as an international lawlessness and war, first tried to make the ICC in these materials.
