Greece decided to clean up a transit camp on the border with Macedonia with more than 8 thousand desperate migrants.
George Kyritsis, press Secretary of the government, said in a live television interview on the Greek broadcaster sky that the cleansing of the camp will start at dawn and said "no violence will be used."
"Early in the morning, people woke up and began packing things to leave for the bus, waiting to transfer their organized objects."
Officials confirmed that 6 buses with people already left idomeni and headed for the organized camp near 80 km from Thessaloniki.
Kyritsis, said that 2,500 people have already been moved to last week in a special camp. there were 8 thousand refugees, who also need to be deported. The new facility is able to accommodate 6 thousand people.
The police did not allow journalists to visit the camp, which must be cleaned up before the end of the week, but Kyritsis said it was "probably a temporary measure". Conditions in the camp are deplorable. In March, the Agency for refugees reported that many in the camp, about 40% are children who suffer from breathing problems.
The workers were in a makeshift camp after Macedonia had closed its border. Estimates that in Greece there are about 55 thousand of migrants and refugees.
