Courtney Love no longer wants to be known by that name
The singer has decided to drop her stage name as she feels it has bad connotations. She has decided to start using her middle name instead, and from now on wants to be known as Courtney Michelle.
"Courtney Love is dead," she told NME magazine. "We`ve all decided we don`t like her anymore. We love her when she goes onstage, but I don`t need her in the rest of my life."
The rocker added calling her Courtney Love is a "way to oppress" her, which is why she has decided to make the change.
The 45-year-old married Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in Hawaii in February 1992. Kurt battled drug addiction and depression, and committed suicide by shooting himself on April 8, 1994.
Courtney has regularly spoken about her time with the musician, but has now said she is tired of being quizzed about him.
"I am not his spokesperson on Earth," she told the publication. "I don`t know what he`d be like now, he could be into society girls, he could be into fat girls, he could be homosexual. We don`t know, he died at 27."
Courtney and Kurt had daughter Frances Bean in 1992. In December, a judge removed the 17-year-old from Courtney?s care in December, and extended a restraining order banning the singer from contacting her daughter earlier this year.
Frances is being cared for by Kurt?s mother Wendy O?Connor, and sister, Kimberly Cobain. It is still unknown why Frances asked to be removed from her mother?s care.
The singer admits the incident has had a big impact on her. "I`m ultimately a widow and a single mother, who`s not even getting to be a mother right now. I am so alone, it`s freaky," she said.
