Ricky Martin landed a role in a New York production of Evita
The singer will appear in the first new Broadway staging of the Tony Award-winning musical since it debuted in New York in 1979. He will play the character of Che.
The show`s producers also announced that Argentine actress Elena Roger will play the lead role of Evita. Elena previously portrayed the character in a London production in 2006.
Evita, which was written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, tells the story of Evita Peron, the controversial and glamorous former first lady of Argentina.
Ricky has revealed he can`t wait to return to the stage - his first outing in Broadway was for Les Miserables in 1999.
"I`ve been blessed with the opportunity to perform on many of the world`s largest concert stages, but I`ve never lost my love for the intimacy of the theatre," he said. "I`m delighted to know that after I`ve had the chance to share new music and tour over the coming year, that I will then return once again to Broadway."
The new show is set to open in spring 2012. It will be directed by Michael Grandage and choreographed by Rob Ashford.
