Named winners of the Nobel prize in chemistry
John Goodenough, Stanley Wittingham and Akira Yoshino won the Nobel prize in chemistry for the year 2019 for the development of lithium-ion batteries.
"These lightweight, rechargeable and powerful batteries are currently used in everything from mobile phones and laptops, similarly to electric cars. They have the ability to save a significant number of energy from renewable sources from solar and wind, " said the Nobel Committee of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
