Vampires wanted by Russian director
One of Russia`s best-known directors active in Hollywood, Timur Bekmambetov, will try his hand at a new cinematic adventure entitled Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
The man behind Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie, Bekmambetov made a name for himself as the author of the highest grossing Russian film in history, the sci-fi fantasy Night Watch.
According to Variety, the title role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will be played by young, promising actor Benjamin Walker, whose credits include Flags of Our Fathers by Clint Eastwood.
It has been reported that such stars as Adrien Brody, Josh Lucas, James D`Arcy and Oliver Jackson-Cohen have auditioned for the role. But, as Variety writes, Walker emerged as the front-runner, and his deal closed shortly thereafter.
Timur Bekmambetov will direct and will co-produce with Tim Burton and Jim Lemley. He previously worked with the director of Alice in Wonderland on the animated film 9.
As the title of the story by Seth Grahame-Smith suggests, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will see America?s 16th president fighting against vampires.
The ambitious Hollywood production is expected to be shot in 3D later this year for a 2012 release.
