Sharapova gears up in style ahead of US Open
Maria Sharapova has climbed three places to number four in the world rankings following a hard-fought win over Jelena Jankovic in the final of the Cincinnati Open.
The Russian threw away a 4-1 lead in the first set to lose 6-4.
But she held her nerve to take the back-and-forth second set on a tie-break before blitzing the decider, 6-3.
The win secured Sharapova`s second title of the year after winning in Rome, and the 24th over the course of her career.
It was also the perfect preparation for the US Open, which starts in a week`s time.
On the men`s side, Andy Murray was over the moon after beating man of the moment, Novak Djokovic - though that title came after the red-hot Serbian retired due to a right shoulder injury at a set and 3-0 down.
However, Djokovic retained his top ranking and is hoping to get his shoulder right in time for what could be his third Grand Slam crown of the season at Flushing Meadows.
The defeat was only the second of a - so far - sizzling season for Djokovic, who has won 53 matches so far.
