Daryl Hannah was arrested outside the White House
The `Kill Bill` star was handcuffed and led away by police after joining a sit-down protest on the sidewalk outside President Barack Obama`s official residence in Washington DC against the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
The 50-year-old actress was taken into custody - along with around 100 other protesters - after refusing to move on when ordered to do so by the US Park Police.
Before she was arrested, Hannah said: "Sometimes it`s necessary to sacrifice your freedom for a greater freedom, and we want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future."
The proposed pipeline will run from the Canadian tar sands in Alberta to oil refineries on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico but the plan has yet to be granted approval by the White House.
This isn`t the first time Daryl has been arrested.
In 2009, she was detained by police after taking part in a protest against mountaintop coalmining - a practice which sees the tops of mountains blown away to help miners get at deposits inside - which resulted in a West Virginia road being blocked.
Daryl - who is a long-term environmental activist - and 30 other people blocked traffic by sitting on a stretch of road outside a Massey Energy Company plant, prompting police to intervene.
