Ukraine?s Yushchenko dismisses two governors
KIEV, November 9 -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has dismissed the governors of the Lugansk and Zaporozhye regions - Alexey Danilov and Yuri Artyomenko, presidential press-secretary Irina Gerashchenko has said.
According to the official the governors have been moved to new positions in the executive bodies of power.
Both Artyomenko and Danilov were appointed on February 4.
More personnel reshuffles are likely after the Cabinet on Wednesday reviews the performance of regional and central executive bodies of power over the past nine months.
As he previewed forthcoming personnel changes, Yushchenko said that there would be no purges. The dismissed governors will have a chance to display their potential in new capacities.
Yushchenko said the decisions he was making should by no means be seen as "political divorces or family quarrels." Their sole purpose was to reinforce the system of executive power.
In the wake of the Yulia Timoshenko government?s dismissal a special commission was formed to look into the governors? activity over the past nine months. The commission submitted its conclusions to Prime Minister Yuri Yekhanurov, who, in turn, approached the president with his ideas about how the list of governors should look like.
