Russia reports end of forest fire season - Natural Resources Ministry
MOSCOW, November 10 -- A season of forest fires in Russia is over, an official at the Russian Ministry for Natural Resources told Itar-Tass. As of November 9, "there were no forest fires in the territory of the Russian Federation," the official said.
According to statistics, 15,714 forest fires have been registered in Russia since the beginning of the fire-risk season of 2005, the ministry?s official said.
"The fires destroyed 678,414 hectares of forest during that time," he said, adding that in the near future the information will specify on the basis of data receiving during space and air monitoring.
