Dior makes choice: Raf Simons to replace John Galliano
Belgian designer Raf Simons has replaced John Galliano at Christian Dior. The French Fashion House has been looking for the right candidate for the vacant spot after Galliano was scandalously fired in 2011 after anti-Semitic rants.
"It is with tremendous excitement that the House of Dior is welcoming Raf Simons, one of today`s greatest talents," Christian Dior fashion house`s official statement says.
Raf Simons, who has been creative director of Jil Sander since 2005, will unveil his first collection for Dior in July. Simons will be mastering women`s Haute Couture, Pret-a-Porter and Accessory collections.
The Fashion house has been considering candidates for over a year. Rumor and speculations named Marc Jacobs, Albert Elbaz and Phoebe Philo as candidates to take Galliano`s place.
John Galliano had been working for Dior since 1997, and was fired in March last year after an anti-Semitic outburst in a Paris cafe.
