Ukrainian president takes blood test
KIEV - Specialists have taken blood samples from Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko to be analyzed in European laboratories as part of investigations into his alleged poisoning, the presidential press-service said Thursday.
"The examination [of the blood samples] will be conducted in three top European laboratories. The first sample was delivered to a laboratory in Europe on November 9. The remaining two samples were planned to be delivered to other European countries on November 10," the press-service said.
The press-service said the names of the laboratories would be withheld in the interests of the ongoing investigation.
Yushchenko`s health problems began in early September 2004 during his presidential campaign. Yushchenko had dinner with Ukrainian Security Service senior officials in a country house belonging to the former deputy head of the service, Vladimir Satsuk, on September 5, 2004. After dinner, Yushchenko fell ill and was taken to the Rudolfinerhaus clinic in Vienna. The head doctor at the clinic attributed his condition to "high concentrations of dioxin, most likely orally administered".
