Svanidze and Pugacheva elected to Public Chamber
The second stage of Russian Public Chamber formation ended today - 42 representatives from 200 candidates were elected from All-Russian public organizations.
Among elected to Public Chamber are famous people: Nikolai Svanidze, lawyer Henry Reznik, chess player Anatoly Karpov, singer Alla Pugacheva, cinema producer Karen Shakhnazarov.
As a reminder, first members of Chamber were appointed by the head of government. These people have special state and public merits. Among them - doctor Leonid Roshal, academician Evgeny Velikhov, lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, sportswomen Irina Rodnina and Alina Kabaeva, actor Aleksander Kalyagin. They elected today the second group of Public Chamber members from representatives of All-Russian public organizations.
Council of 15 people will be at the head of new institution. Chamber will have 13 committees working in different directions: security, social politics and environmental protection. Inside of these committees working groups will be formed. Decisions of Public Chamber are recommendations which must be considered by authorities.
By the end of December 2005 third part of Chamber will be formed from delegates of regional public organizations.
