Smoking kills 300 thousands of Russians annually
"Every year 300 thousands of people die from smoking in Russia, 25% of population mortality is indirectly connected with consequences of smoking", - reported deputy of the Health protection committee of State Duma Nikolai Gerasimenko.
By his words, Russia tales 4th place in the world for tobacco use. In particular, more than 60% of men, 25% of women and half of teenagers smoke in Russia.
Delegates noticed that duration of smokers` life reduces by 10-15 years, and drinking person - by 4-5 years.
Gerasimenko added that annual overproduction of cigarettes is 300 milliards pieces over all country. "We just can not use all cigarettes which we produce. The majority of infringing goods exports to other countries - Poland, Great Britain, Finland", - he said.
From his side the head pulmonologist of Russia Alexander Chuchalin announced that the most wide-spread diseases connected with tobacco smoking touch cardiovascular, endocrine, respiratory and sexual systems. Tobacco dependence can cause depressive state.
In opinion of press-conference participants, Russia must ratify Convention of tobacco smoking struggle. Russian Federation is one of 17 countries that didn`t ratify it.
According to expert data, taking measured for tobacco smoking struggle Japan managed to reduce amount of smokers by 20% of populations, and Norway - by 15%.
