Because of illegal timber cutting Russia loses $1-2 milliards per year
According to estimates of World Wide nature Fund, annual losses of Russia because of illegal timber cutting amount to $1-2 milliards.
In total, world industry annually loses about $15 milliards as a result of thefts, illegal cutting and forest selling.
During 2001-2004 amounts of timber cutting over Russian Federation increased from 6.5 millions of cubic meters to 17.1 millions. As expert of Russian WWF department of illegal timber cutting Anatoly Kotlobai informed, Russian loses 1% of valuable plantations of trees.
In opinion of specialists, the causes of such ecological and economic situation lie in "imperfection of control system over forest exploitation, high level of forest violation latency, non-coordination of different state structures action, low level of forest service financing".
