WWF urges Russians to refuse caviar
Russian WWF subsidiary announced the start of campaign "New Year without caviar". WWF urges Russians to refuse eating caviar, in order to shorten sturgeon poaching. On WWF opinion, all caviar sold in Russia is illegal. WWF supports the idea of state monopoly advanced by Ministry of Agriculture. However, WWF considers voluntary reduction of caviar consuming to reduce the demand for it, reducing sturgeon species poaching. The campaign started by WWF received support on the side of the TV presenter Nikolai Drozdov, famous TV presenter of 1980 Tatiana Vedeneyeva, caricaturist Andrey Biljo and composer Eugeny Feklistov. WWF estimates world sturgeon populations to have declined by as much as 70 per cent in the past few decades.
