Russian biathlon sportswomen won relay race in Ruhpolding
In German town Ruhpolding 5-th stage of World Cup for biathlon started with female relay-race 4 by 5 km. Russian team, being 1/10 of second ahead of German team, gained the victory.
The fortune of the race was determined by photo finish, which placed Russian Olga Zaitseva ahead of German Simone Denkinger.
Russian and German teams led from the beginning of relay-race. On first stage of the race German Martina Glagov became the leader and Russian Anna Bogalii-Titivez remained only 10 second behind.
On second stage Andrea Henkel ran for German team and Svetlana Ishmuratova - for Russia. Despite the fact that Ishmuratova shot slower at firing line, she ran the distance faster and reduced lag from the leader. Russian skier Albina Akhatova managed to outrun Katrin Apel on finish of 3 stage and send Olga Zaitseva to distance with advantage of 10 seconds.
Moscow biathlon skier, ranked 5 in World Cup, was 15 seconds ahead after first firing line. But while shooting in position standing there were problems with rifle and though Russian sportswoman was precise, German sportswoman left shooting-ground just behind her.
Both biathlon skiers tried to ran away from rival on distance but the actual struggle took place on finish line. At first computer put German team on first position but photo finish showed that Zaitseva was one moment faster.
Third place took Slovenian team, which managed to leave strong French team without bronze medals.
