Sea-based missile launched in the White sea
Sea-based ballistic missile of new generation "Bulava" was launched successfully for the first time in the White sea, naval forces of Russia informed on Tuesday. The start was at 17.22 Moscow time from heavy missile strategic cruiser submarine "Dmitry Donskoy" under control of captain Arkady Romanov. "Head of the missile will successfully strike the conventional target at the Kura ground at Kamchatka in the estimated time", - naval forces informed. The informer also added that commander-in-chief of naval forces of Russia Vladimir Masorin thanked captain Romanov and "Dmitry Donskoy" crew for good level of training and successful work. "The successful firing proves high level readiness of Naval Strategic Nuclear Forces and reliability of battle control system of Naval Forces", - was stressed at NF office. By the end of 2004 solid-rocket intercontinental ballistic missiles of new generation "Bulava" successfully passed the stage of above- and under water throw tests. That missile is intended for use on the newest nuclear submarines of project 955 ("Borej" type). Minister of Defense of RF Sergey Ivanov considers improving the missiles "Bulava" as the most promising direction for Strategic Missiles Forces (SMF). Two of "Borey" submarines are building now at the machinery construction plant of the Severodvinsk. The leading one "Yuri Dolgoruky" will be launched at the end of 2006. The second one - "Alexander Nevsky" - in 2007.
