Members of Russian Olympic figure-skating team pronounced
All Russian figure-skaters, who participated in European championship in Lyon, excluding Sergey Dobrin became members of Olympic team. This was informed by president of Russian Figure-skating Federation Valentine Piseev.
Therefore, Russian figure-skating team will be presented at XX winter Olympic Games by: Evgeny Plushenko, Ilya Klimkin (men single); Irina Slutskaya, Elena Sokolova and Victoria Volchkova (women single); Tatyana Totmyanina and Maxim Marinin, Maria Petrova and Aleksey Tikhonov, Yulia Obertas and Sergey Slavnov (sport pairs); Tatyana Navka and Roman Kostomarov, Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin, Yana Khokhlova and Sergey Novitski (dance pairs).
As a reminder, Russian figure-skaters have won all 4 golden as well as 1 silver and 1 bronze medals at European championship, which took place in Lyon. These victories are serious claims for Olympic gold.
Evgeny Plushenko was beyond comparison among men and won 5-th title of European champion with advantage of 17 points from closest rival. In female competition Irina Slutskaya became the winner and Elena Sokolova has won the silver.
Tatyana Navka and Roman Kostomarov demonstrated will-power in competition of dances on ice. Being only third in obligatory dances Russian sportsmen brilliantly figure-skated the remaining 2 dances and left jury no doubt in their advantage over rivals.
"The golden start" of this championship belongs to Russian Tatyana Totmyanina and Maxim Marinin. They were leaders after performance of short program and managed to keep the leadership among sport pairs. Unfortunately second strongest Russian pair Maria Petrova and Aleksey Tikhonov gave up deserved second place to German pair and were content with bronze.
