Dementeva avenged for Sharapova by crushing defeat of Hinges in final
Russian Elena Dementeva became the winner of large tennis tournament Toray Pan Pacific Open, which has ended on Sunday, February 5, in Tokyo.
In final she has defeated Swiss Martina Hinges with smashing score 6:2, 6:0. It should be mentioned that 24-year old Dementeva defeated Hinges in 3 last games. In semi-final Hinges easily won another Russian tennis-player Maria Sharapova and everyone expected tense struggle in final.
"I am very pleased, - said Dementeva after the end of the game. - To be honest I didn`t expect that victory will be on my side. Martina has always been my favorite tennis-player. I participate in Tokyo tournament for 5-th time and finally has become the winner".
"I have never won the set with score 6:0 in final but have lost with such score for several times. In fact it was a good game and score doesn`t reflect its content. I`ve just tried to play the best I can. I didn`t feel any pressure before match and that helped a lot", - emphasized Russian sportswoman.
It is the first victory for Dementeva after winning of tournament in Hasselt in 2004. Moreover, she won in Amelia-Island, Bali and Shanghais tournaments in 2003. For victory of Tokyo tournament second Russian racket was awarded cheque for $196900.
As for Hinges, she won Tokyo tournament for 4 times - in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2002. Last year the leading title belonged to Russian Maria Sharapova. By the way Hinges, who returned to the court after 3-year break and was ranked 117-th in WTA rating, will become 52-nd racket of the world next week.
