Michelle Kwan pulled out of the Winter Olympics
Five-times world champion, 25-year old American figure-skater Michelle Kwan will not participate in women`s competitions in Torino because of injury.
Kwan sustained a groin strain on Saturday at the Palaghiaccio practice ice rink in Torino.
"This injury prevents me from skating my best. Taking myself off the team is the most difficult decision I`ve ever had to make but it`s the right decision", - Kwan said.
Emily Hughes will replace the athlete in the ladies figure skating competition. The U.S. Olympic Committee has already submitted the replacement form to Torino Olympic Organising Committee.
Kwan missed the majority of competitions last year, including the nationals where Hughes finished third, and became the member of national team by special decision of US Figure-Skating Federation.
