Artist Eugeny Samoilov dies
People`s artist of the USSR died of long-lasting disease in Moscow today, being 94 years old, informed the directorate of State academic Maly theatre, where he worked since 1967.
Eugeny Samoilov started his creative activity in Leningrad in early 1930s. in 1934-1938 he worked in Meyerhold`s theatre. Those four years of work side by side with the prominent actors became a school of actor`s profession for the young actor.
In 1940 Eugeny Samoilov entered the company of theatre of Revolution, renamed later in Mayakovsky`s theatre. There he played Hamlet, which became one of his most prominent works.
Since 1967 Samoilov worked in Maly theatre, where he played parts of prince Ivan Petrovich Shuisky in the famous play "Tsar Feodor Ioannovich", and other roles in classic and modern plays. Eugeny Samoilov became a legend of Russian cinema. He played leading roles in the films "Shurs", "At 6 o?clock in the evening after the war", "Bright way", "Boris Godunov". The Artist was awarded with many state prizes, including Order of October revolution, Trade Red Banner Order, "Order for Merits before the Motherland" of IV degree.
