Full solar eclipse to cover Russia on March 29
First full solar eclipse of XXI century may be observed on Russian territory within a month - on March 29.
The zone of full eclipse will pass through large stationary observatories, situated in Kislovodsk town and Zelenchuk cossack village. This will allow astronomers to carry on investigations of high accuracy. Astronomers prepare carefully for this event because next phenomena is expected in 50 years.
The area of full eclipse touches Karachaevo-Cherkesia, Stavropol krai, Kalmykia, Dagestan, Volgograd oblast, Altai krai and Tuva. Talking about large Russian towns, "full eclipse will be seen only in Astrakhan".
In St. Petersburg the eclipse will start at 14:11 by Moscow time and end at 16:07. During eclipse the Moon will cross Sun disk from south-west edge to north-east one. The maximum phase of the eclipse - almost half of Sun diameter covered by Moon - may be observed at 15:10 by Moscow time. The Moon shadow will leave Earth at 15:47 in Irkutsk region.
It should be reminded that last full solar eclipse observed in Russia was on March 9, 1997.
