Vladimir Dobrovolsky. Latvia is ready to Express support as strengthening and reduction of penalties against Russia, depending on the conditions, said the Ambassador of Latvia to the EU Ilze Johanson.
" As for Russia, the first of our national prospects and prospects of the EU - punishment is not a policy in itself, it is an instrument of foreign policy. We supported the punishment, when the EU reacted immediately. But We also said That if de-escalation provisions, which, unfortunately, is not happening, We are ready to reduce punishment. My response on sanctions - We are ready to strengthen them, to reduce them, if there are rules, " said Johanson, presenting in Brussels presidency priorities of Latvia in the European Union.
The EU presidency will go to Latvia from Italy in the new year.
The US and EU do not recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia and accuse Moscow of interfering in Ukraine. Russia denies it and calls the accusations are unacceptable.
