Chancellor of Austria voted against increased penalties regarding Russia.
Federal Chancellor of Austria Werner Faymann opposed to further strengthen sanctions of the EU towards Russia.
" I was not able to reconcile with the euphoria of many (countries) in the EU on the issue of the success of the punishment relative to Russia. I see absolutely no reason for joy - I don't know why we should rejoice, if the Russian economy is falling, " said Faymann in an interview to the newspaper, adding that the so-EU countries " cut the branch on which you sit ".
Austrian Chancellor also said that the introduction of punishment was necessary, but, in his vision, " toughening of punishments may not be our aim.
Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine. At the end of July, the EU and the US from point penalties against private individuals and organizations turned to measures against entire sectors of the Russian economy. In response, Russia has restricted the import of food items from countries that have introduced in relation to penalties: USA, EU, Canada, Australia and Norway.
