Among the masters of Russian works of monumental sculpture of the first half of the nineteenth century,
Vasily Demuth-Malinovsky is one of the most significant places. His works were in tune with the heroic era of the war of 1812, close to the thoughts and feelings of the people. He was born in 1779 in St. Petersburg, the son of woodcarver. The first acquaintance with the art of the boy was at home, watching the work of the father. In 1785, six-year old child, he was given the Academy of Arts.
. In 1799, for relief of "The Angel brings the apostle Peter from prison, Malinowski was awarded a Gold Medal 2 nd degree in 1800 ode for the execution, along with other artists of the bas-reliefs on the monument to Peter I of Rastrelli - First Gold Medal
. In the same ode he graduated from the Academy of Arts. After two years at the competition his project tombstone sculptor M. I. Kozlovsky was named best. Musicality lines, classic silhouette severity, rhythmic expression distinguish this bas-relief allegorichekuyu composition, full of genuine grace and lyricism. Malinowski was able to find the expressive artistic means to convey strong human feelings of deep sorrow for the dead teacher.
