George Gibbs Dibrell was born in White County, Tenn., April 12, 1822. Receiving the usual high school education, completed a year teaching at the University of East Tennessee, Dibrell gradually engaged in agriculture and trade. In 1861 he was elected a delegate to the State Assembly, decides to secede from the Union, as a supporter of the last. And we strongly defended his point of view. But when his native Tennessee still opted for secession, then Dibrell, like many of his countrymen of the same opinion, abide by the decision of the majority and one of the first voluntarily joined the regular army of the South.
Starting service rank and file, already 10 August 1861 Dibrell was podplkovnikom, and in September - the Rangers under the command of Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest. In March 1863, General Bragg has requested an allocation of Forrest's cavalry unit for the protection of industrial facilities in southern Taskambii and Florence, Ala., on federal raiders forced their way.
