In 1839 published his classic essay, the very title of which reflected the essence of the cell theory - "Microscopic studies of compliance in the structure and growth of animals and plants". The basis of this theory he put a few assumptions: 1) as plants, . and animals, . inherent unity of structure, 2) in the basis of the structure of all organisms is the cell, and 3) the formation of more and more cells - the principle of organic growth and development of plants and animals, and 4) cell is the basic biological unit, 5) the organism as a whole is the sum of its cells formed, . According F. Engels, the establishment of cell theory was, along with the law of energy transformation and evolutionary theory, one of the three greatest discoveries in science in XIX. Member of the Royal Society of London (1879), the Paris Academy of Sciences (1879), a member of the Academy of Sciences in Brussels (1841).
