1690 - 1745. Was Archbishop of Novgorod. Educated at the Kiev Theological Academy. From the sermons of his wonderful word in the day ascension to the throne of Elizabeth, outlining the distress caused to Russia by foreigners and infidels in the two preceding reign. Work A., "A thorough reading of the differences between Greek and Roman papal church, remained in manuscript. In 1742 A. Arseny Matseevich presented to the Empress Elizabeth's assumptions about the reform of higher church administration.
