Biography Martti Ahtisaari
Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari was born June 23, 1937 in g. Viipuri, Karelia, Finland (now z. Vyborg, Russia). In the early 60's he worked in Pakistan over the educational project of the Swedish International Development Agency. Returning to Finland, he got a job at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1965 and was appointed ambassador to Tanzania in 1973. In this position, he spent 3 years, after which he was to pass the first serious test of his diplomatic skills as an authorized representative of the UN in Namibia in 1977-81, respectively.
. In the 80 years he continued to represent the UN in Namibia, working in the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs
. He headed the UN mission which oversaw the transition of Namibia to independence in 1989-90. In 1992-93 Ahtisaari was the chief UN envoy to the peace talks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. His vision of Finland as an important actor in international relations became the basis of his campaign, which successfully completed for him in 1994.
. From the first days as president Ahtisaari all the forces sent to attract foreign capital to Finland, . development of economic ties with Russia, . CIS and Eastern Europe and at the same time, closer integration with Western European community.,

In 1999, together with the representative of Russia's Viktor Chernomyrdin met with Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, and suggested that he threatened the resumption of NATO bombing to sign an agreement to suspend hostilities in Kosovo between Serbian forces and Kosovo Liberation Army, . created by ethnic Albanians,
. The next day, Milosevic agreed to the terms of the agreement, which included putting the peacekeeping forces of NATO and Russia in Kosovo.
Ahtisaari calmly insisted that it was the only way out of this situation.
