Biography Soliysky Arat
(Aratos) (ca. Soli in Cilicia, a descendant of a noble family, lived in Athens, as well as in the courts of Antigonus II Gonata in Macedonia and Antiochus I (281 - 261 BC) in Syria. Author was popular for many centuries didactic Astrolite-astronomical poem "Phenomena" ( "Phainomena", ca. 270 BC). This poem in 1154 hexameter - a valuable source for exploring the ancient Greek astrology. It describes the starry sky and stellar phenomena according to the teachings of Eudoxus of Cnidus. In addition, the poetic fabric of the verse included stellar myths, and material on the weather and agricultural signs associated with the synodic rising and setting of constellations and stars. Poem A.S. - The oldest extant complete description of the Greek constellations. Poem AS, indicating a deep knowledge of the poet Stoic philosophy, had an enormous influence on his followers. It came to our time in the Latin translations of Cicero, Julius Caesar Germanicus (Roman commander, father of Caligula) and Aviena (Latin poet IV in. BC, proconsul of Africa).
