Biography Bilderdijk Willem (Bilderdijk Willem)
(1756-1831) Born Sept. 7, 1756 in Amsterdam, the family physician. He studied law at Leiden University, then practiced as a lawyer in The Hague. In 1795, for political reasons, went into exile and returned to the Netherlands only in 1806. Some time served as a teacher at the court, declined the position, until his death he taught history and literature at Leiden University. A gifted writer, Bilderdijk was largely bound willed perception of the role and nature of poetry. He believed that poets write by inspiration from above, and therefore failed to correct written as dictated by the Holy Spirit. He also thought that poetry is not limited in its themes, and high style reasoning about the most prosaic and special items, such as disease researchers (De Ziekte der Geleerden, 1807).
Bilderdijk - author of many ballads, epic poems, satires, lyric and religious poetry, dramatic works. Mastery of a word, brilliant imagination, the drama of the most personal poems for a long time left for him a major role in the literary scene of the Netherlands. Among his poetic works - Poems (Poezij, . 1803-1807), . Winter Flowers (Winterbloemen, . 1811) and a poem of death of the first world (De Ondergang der eerste Wereld, . 1820), in addition, . he owns the 13-volume historical work History of the Fatherland (Geschiedenis des Vaderlands, . 1832-1851), . Died in Haarlem Bilderdijk September 7, 1756.
