BOULLE Ole (Bull Ole)

(full name Ole Bornemann Bull) (1810-1880)
Born February 5, 1810 in Bergen. Having almost no training, has become one of the most prominent virtuosos of the 19. His technical skill was phenomenal: he could compete with Paganini. From the works of Bull survived only a few.
A committed patriot, Bull contributed greatly to the revival of Norwegian culture in the 19. Founded in Bergen, the Norwegian National Theater (1850) and attracted to work as a playwright and director 23-year-old H. Ibsen. He was the first who supported the talent of Edvard Grieg.

Nearly 40 years Bull enjoyed extraordinary popularity in the U.S., where in 1843 he had his first tour. In 1852 he made an unsuccessful attempt to establish a Norwegian colony in Pennsylvania, spending a significant part of personal resources. He died at his home in Luce near Bergen, August 17, 1880.
