GALL Guy Viby Trebonianus (Gaius Vibius Trebonianus Gallus)

(ca. 206-253 BC)
Born in Perouse (sovr. Perugia) in central Italy. Gall received the rank of senator, ca. 245 Acting Consul-suffekta, at 250-251 under the Emperor Detsii ruled the province of Upper and Lower Moesia (on the right bank of the lower Danube). In the battle with the Goths at Abritta (Thrace) in June 251, when Decius died, Gall commanded support troops. Danubian legions proclaimed him emperor. Political and military situation has forced Galla sign a temporary truce with the Goths. Returning to Rome, the new emperor strengthened his position, speaking before the Senate and taking the co-rulers Gostiliana, son of Decius. After his death in November 251 Gall continued to administer the empire together with his son Volyuzianom. In Empire plague raged, Eastern and Danubian frontiers collapsed under the onslaught of the Persians and ready. Avoiding battles, Gall lost the confidence of the army, and in 253 other commander of the legions of the Danube, Marcus Aemilius Aemilianus, reflecting before it is ready to attack, was declared emperor and started a campaign against Italy. Gall summoned to the aid of Valerian (future Emperor) from the upper Rhine, but in August, 253 soldiers have killed Galla with his son near Interamna (Umbria, central Italy).
