PISA Nicolo (Pisano Niccol)

(ca. 1225 - between 1278 and 1284)
Born in Puglia. The earliest of the now well-known works of the sculptor - hexagonal marble chair for the Baptistery in Pisa (1260). The Department relies on semicircular arches supported by tall columns. In her relief depicting Gospel scenes reflected klassitsiziruyuschie trends, widely spread in schools in southern Italy, the center of these influences was the court of Emperor Frederick II.
From 1265 to 1269 Nicola Pisano created a similar but larger octagonal department for the Siena Cathedral in aid of his son Giovanni and students Donato and Arnoldo di Cambio. Reliefs of this department include a greater number of figures, movements which seem more anxious and expressive. Here strong influences of French Gothic art, artist, probably been in France. In those same years, together with Fra Guglielmo Nicola Pisano created the tomb of St.. Dominica same name for the church in Bologna (1264-1267).

His last work was the master of the fountain to decorate the cathedral square in Perugia (1278), which participated in the establishment and his son, Niccolo, Giovanni. According to Vasari, Nicola Pisano built the church of Santa Trinita in Florence (1258-1280) - a monument representing a sample of Cistercian Gothic style on the Italian soil.
