Juan Manuel Rosas (Rosas Juan Manuel)

(1793-1877)
Born in Buenos Aires on March 30, 1793. At the age of 13 participated in the fight against the British invaders. He organized militia of the province. In 1929 he was elected governor of Buenos Aires. In 1835, Rosas became the de facto ruler of Argentina, has forced the province to delegate his executive powers, including the right to diplomatic relations with other states.
In 1838-1840 Rosas successfully defended the interests of Argentina during the French blockade of Buenos Aires. In 1842, he tried to expand its influence in Uruguay, an alliance with Manuel Uribe, the Uruguayan president in exile. Supported Rosas Uribe began a civil war that lasted until 1851. In 1845 due to non-payment of external debt Rosas Britain and France took up arms expansion in Argentina, defeated its fleet and blockaded Buenos Aires. Four years later, Rosas able to resolve the conflict and conclude in 1849 a peace treaty with England, and in 1850 - with France. In 1852, General Justo Josц? de Urquiza, governor of the province of Entre Rios, revolted and, together with the forces of Brazil and Uruguay overthrew the regime of Rosas. Rosas died in Southampton (UK) 14 March 1877.
