RUBINSTEIN Arthur (Rubinstein Artur)

(1887-1982)
Became famous for his interpretations of works of the Romantic piano repertoire. Born January 28, 1887 in Lodz (Poland, part of those years in Rossiyskuyu Empire). He showed early interest in music and at age eight, on the recommendation of J. Joachim (the famous violinist and friend of Johannes Brahms) began to study in Berlin theoretical disciplines in M. Bruch and piano playing in G. Barta (a pupil of Liszt). Debut Rubinstein took place in Berlin in 1898: he appeared with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. Many concerts, in particular, first visited America in 1906, but at that time reacted to criticism of him is cool. Greater success came to Rubinstein in 1920, and following his tour of the U.S. in 1937 was a real triumph for the pianist. In 1941 he was elected a U.S. permanent residence.
Rubinstein was a versatile musician, but the peak of its skill demonstrated in the performance of the masterpieces of the great romantic composers of the last century - Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Brahms. His tone was rich and at the same time elegant, different interpretations of a large scale, large architectonics that sets the game Rubinstein among the 'neat' and cautious interpretations of Romantic repertoire. The pianist has made many recordings on records and published an autobiographical book of my youth (My young years, 1973). Rubinstein died in Geneva (Switzerland) on 20 December 1982.
