STEVENS, Robert Livingston (Stevens Robert Livingston)

(1787-1856)
Born October 18, 1787 in Hoboken (pc. New Jersey) in the family of the famous engineer-inventor Dzh.Stivensa. The boy was an apt pupil and has 17 years of age he helped his father in creating the ship with two propellers. Later perfected bow of the ship structure 'New Philadelphia', which considerably improved the driving performance of the vessel. In 1822 he built a railway ferry 'Hoboken'. In 1841, together with his brother built for the U.S. fleet so-called 'battery Stevens' - Armored vessel capable of withstanding attack projectile weighing 24 kg. Participating in the leadership of the company his father, involved in the construction of the railway Camden - Emboy, created in 1830, the original rail profile - in the form of inverted T, which is now used worldwide.
