Biography TERRY, Ellen (Terry Ellen)
(1847-1928) Full name - Ellen Alice (Alice), Terry. Born February 27, 1847 in Coventry in 1856 and has already debuted on the London stage. In 1867, to link their work with H. Irving, for many years performed the leading roles in his productions in the theater 'Litseum'. Among her many friends was Bernard Shaw, with whom she corresponded for many years. After Irving's death in 1905, Terry has worked with different directors. During his long stage life has played many roles in the plays of Charles Reed, A. Tennyson, V. Sardou, but most of all remember her Portia (The Merchant of Venice). Son of Terry E. G. Craig (EGCraig) became world famous director and theater artist. In 1906, England honored Terry in the theater 'Drury Lane' in connection with the fiftieth anniversary of her stage work, in 1925 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire I degree. Terry died in Small-Hite (Kent) 21 July 1928.
