Treitschke Heinrich (Treitschke Heinrich von)

(1834-1896)
Born in Dresden, September 15, 1834 in a family of army officer. He was educated in Leipzig and the University of Bonn, in 1859 he became a professor at Leipzig University. In 1863 he was invited to Freiburg University. During the war of 1866 was a Prussian citizen and professor at the University of Kiel. He taught at Heidelberg, in 1874 became professor of history at Berlin University. In 1871, Treitschke was elected to the Reichstag from the Germanic National Liberal Party. Known as the enemy of liberalism, the ideologist of 'Prussian spirit' and an admirer of Bismarck. His most famous works - The German history in the nineteenth century (Deutsche Geschichte im neunzehnten Jahrhundert, 5 Bd., 1879-1894). Among other works - Historical and political essays (Historische und politische Aufstze, 1865, 1870, 1897) Ten years of struggle in Germany (Zehn Jahre deutscher Kmpfe, 1874, 3 edition. 1897); Politics (Politik, 2 Bd., 1897-1898). In 1866 he became editor of Treitschke 'Prussian Yearbook' ( 'Preussisches Jahrbucher'), and in 1895, after the death of Heinrich von Siebel, editor of the 'Historical Journal' ( 'Historische Zeitschrift'). Died Treitschke in Berlin April 28, 1896.
